Apparently this thread sank to oblivion before Peeker saw it.
Anyhoo, the band I saw last Saturday night was in fact Yes. The classic line up doing a 35 anniversary tour. Yes, they looked old (especially Steve Howe! Talk about a walking skeleton with long hair!) Yes, they sounded awesome! Yes, their stage was incredible!
They opened with a blazing rendition of "Going for the One".
Weird but cool moment #1. After a 15 minute intermission they came back and did the now clich? "unplugged" set. They discussed the difficulty of doing an acoustic version of "Roundabout" and how they came up with a "Chicago Blues" version. I winced at first but it ended up sounding really good!
Weird but kinda cool moment #2. Steve Howe was known for bashing the 90s lineup (Owner of a Lonely Heart) with Trever Rabin on lead guitar saying that they were not really "Yes". He despised their sound. Imagine my surprise when Howe started playing "Rythm of Love", a song written by Rabin. He pulled if off quite well even though I saw signs of Howe gagging every once in a while.
Unbelievable that as a longtime Yes fan, this is the first time I ever saw them live. Better late than never in this case! They were fantastic!
